T Bridge is partner for RAIL4REGIONS, the European project that aims to increase the modal split of rail freight transport.

Today the distances for rail freight transport are too long for many companies, resulting in many goods suitable for rail transport being transported by road. Rail4Regions partners, therefore, co-design scalable solutions aimed at transportation and land-use planners to integrate regional rail lines to the freight network as a means of improving the accessibility and economic viability of rail freight, thereby contributing to the goals of the EU’s Green Deal in transportation.

These solutions will aim to improve access to European transport corridors, promote regional development, and enable environmentally friendly transportation for rural and peripheral regions through sidings, reuse of sidings and sidings, upgrading of loading infrastructure, and promotion of single-car transport, which will be tested in Pilot Regions with the participation of local stakeholders.

T Bridge’s main contributions to project activities are:

• Develop a study on the obstacles, advantages and criticalities of rail freight transport and the external effects of road and freight transport.
• To develop a methodology to evaluate the potential impact of the solutions found, in relation to shifting the modal split and saving CO2, in pilot actions.
